Residency Development Officer

Market Hall is a 120- 325 seat flexible performance space in Peterborough, Ontario, a growing community with proximity to the GTA and the Kawartha Lakes. In a period of organic growth and on the verge of a capital improvement, Market Hall is seeking a dynamic individual who will enthusiastically embrace and represent our mission and vision. Market Hall (MH) is seeking an individual to assist it in establishing residencies for companies and artists in ways that are mutually beneficial and draw on established best practices in the greater arts community, while reflecting and meeting the unique realities of our local artistic community. The position offers an opportunity to work with a resident company, Mysterious Entity Theatre (ME), at a crucial time in their development of a recognized season, and to help inform an artistic policy and direction for MH.

Key Duties
-Research potential sources of revenue for resident company -Mysterious Entity - productions and workshops.
-Implement marketing strategies
-Assist ME with applications to granting programs, such as Ontario Arts Council
-Research best practices, across Canada and beyond, for performing arts residencies
-Research and cultivate other potential groups for future residency status at Market Hall
-Develop Market Hall's communication plan as it applies to resident companies
-Assist with ME media releases in a timely and consistent manner
-Develop and facilitate a minimum of two community consultations
-Work with MH staff and volunteers to shape an artistic policy and direction for MH
-Install new audience development database software
-Maintain and update pertinent databases in a timely manner
-Evaluate data and report as required
-Supervise and train volunteers for data collection e.g. audience surveys
-Update ME web page including online survey material
-Produce a final report and evaluation
-Other duties as assigned

Requirements
-Post-secondary education plus an appropriate blend of training and/or relevant experience in the arts or not-for-profit sector.
-Knowledge of, and enthusiasm for, the performing arts and the relevance of culture in the health of a community
-Ability to multi task in a changing environment
-Knowledge of special events planning and management
-Marketing and public relations experience
-Proficiency in the use of computer programs for word processing, databases, spreadsheets, e-mail, internet

MARKET HALL: Built in 1889, Market Hall was renovated into an arts facility in 1984 and is now host to numerous music, theatre and dance groups, as well as its own multi-disciplinary series of youth and family presentations. A multi-use space, with an ability to change configuration to accommodate audiences of 120 to 350 and a range of events from theatre in the round to fundraising banquets, the Market Hall is used as both a community gathering place and a location for artistic creation and presentation. www.markethall.org
